82 was the first I remember. All about Brooking and Keegan coming on at least 10 minutes too late.
86 was a top one. Alvin done himself proud and would never have let hand of cunt mug him off like the rest did. Should have kept his place and Cottee should have been there.

82 and 90 the best World Cups by far..no others come close IMO

I was in the Rat and Carrot in Ilford when England played Argentina in France ‘98.
We went mental when Sol Campbell scored near the end only to look back at the screen about 20 seconds later to see it had been disallowed and Argentina were on the attack. Didn’t have a clue as to what was happening!
Some real quality nights watching England in the big tournaments. And many shit ones too.

Can just remember rooting for The Jocks in 78. Sat all the way through the Peru game...
Holland they had no chance and nearly pulled it off.
82 great games although it could be nostalgia Robson scoring against France and my not understanding why Brooking and Keegan were brought on so late.
86. Linekar hat trick vs Poland. Proud of Alvin. Not understanding why he didn't play more. Josimar goal for Brazil
90. Bloody penalties.
98 in the pub watching Beckham equalise against Romania? Owens great goal. Campbell's disallowed goal Iran beat use
02 was in Japan. Danny mills bootingvtge ball back to 10 man Brazil who just it for another 10 minutes. Trevor Sinclair did great.
06 did anything happen? 10 fucking awful 14 out and played shit
18 can't be worse than the last 3. Can It?

82 for me as it was my first, had to wait 10 years for an England World Cup. Brooking, Butch, Robson, Mick Mills and of course our very own Ron Greenwood. “This time more than any other time... we are Ron’s 22” had that on 7” picture disc.

Too young to remember 1966.
1970 happened in black and white. That Banks save. Brian Moore and The Big Match going overboard about Pele. Me going outside afterwards and pretending to be Pele in the garden.
1974 incredible goalkeeping by a Polish keeper (called Tomacek or similar) stopped us going to the World Cup, despite an Alan Clarke penalty.
1978 silly Scottish song "we'll really shake em up when we win the Worruld Cup..." Alan Rough.
1982 Hope at last for England. Brooking, Greenwood.
Since 1986 all WCs merge into a vague memory of penalties and ineptitude.

Enjoyed them all TBH, Usually more once the frustration of watching England has gone after they get knocked out, and your watching purely as a neutral, also extends the season, which is a big plus as well.
Only WC i was not so keen on was the South Africa 2010, Rooney was a Cunt to the fans, Rob Green the scapegoat and those fucking trumpet things even watching on TV were a fucking menace.

1978 - The first I remember and England weren't there!! Do remember Archie Gemmell's goal against the Dutch.
1982 - The Brazil side (hence my name on here). Absolute quality to watch although as already said couldn't defend!
1990 - Not sure why but four of us decided to go to Portugal for a break in the middle of the thing and somehow there was four 20 year olds who found themselves in a bar full of Germans for the Semi Final!!!! Terrifying at first but it was a cracking night in the end bar the result obviously. Not surprised Matthaeus showed that consideration to Waddle as the Germans in the bar were sympathetic after the game and said that England played well. That night changed my opinion of the Germans and don't mind them winning these days if we don't.
Too many other downers to mention where England are concerned!!

Bad luck stories 1970 could have won it 1974 should have beat Poland 10-0. They finished 3rd 1982 could have gone a long way. Didn't lose a game 1986 could have won it 1990 could have won it 1998 could have won it. Probably best team we've had 2002 onwards shit
